Das Werk umfasst eine Vielzahl von Übersetzungen ins Deutsche (sowie in selteneren Fällen in anderen Sprachen) und ist gleichzeitig eine der ersten systematischen Aufbereitungen des niedersorbischen Wortschatzes. Als historische Quelle enthält es allein aufgrund seiner Entstehungszeit teilweise veraltete Informationen, die auch nicht als solche gekennzeichnet sind, etwa Abweichungen bei der Schreibung und den grammatischen Angaben. The “Niederlausitz-wendisch-deutsches Handwörterbuch” (literal: Lower-Lusatian-Wendish-German Dictionary) by the pastor Johann Georg Zwahr from 1847 marks the beginning of Lower Sorbian lexicography. The dictionary includes a large number of translations into German (and, in rarer cases, into other languages) and is also one of the first systematic compilations of the Lower Sorbian vocabulary. As a historical source and due to the time of its creation it contains some outdated information, which is not marked as such, such as deviations in spelling and grammatical information. Furthermore, this digital version is not a complete reproduction of the original source.
